Jordan (3rd) - Jerash

After working hard for a week, I went sight-seeing in Jerash with Alan, who was another voluntary worker in the hospital (a Pre-Med student) and Husam, who is a permenant worker in the same maintenance team at which I worked (a previous patient in the hospital).

Jerash is known for the ruins of the Greco-Roman city of Gerasa, also referred to as Antioch on the Golden River. It is sometimes misleadingly referred to as the "Pompeii of the Middle East or Asia", referring to its size, extent of excavation and level of preservation. Jerash is considered one of the most important and best preserved Roman cities in the Near East. It was a city of the Decapolis.

There are a large number of striking monuments located in Jerash: the Corinthium column, Hadrian's Arch, a circus/hippodrome, two immense temples (to Zeus and Artemis), the nearly unique oval Forum which is surrounded by a fine colonnade, a long colonnaded street or cardo, two theatres (the Large South Theatre and smaller North Theatre), two baths, a scatter of small temples and an almost complete circuit of city walls.

Jordan (2nd)

Heavy work continues,

0 038

but friendship was formed between us.

0 022

Sometimes, we need to leave our patients,

0 090

and go to the downtown.

0 146

People here are quite different from where I used to live,

0 060

but we have SMILE in common.

0 053

In the Islamic world,

0 027

it was a surprise to find a treasure here,

0 050

Though we may even need to work hard,

0 052

Our hard work is also recognized by the locals.

Jordan (1st)

When I first came to Jordan, I felt a slight fear and anxiety,

0 002

as I reached a myterious place like this.

0 004

Here, people fed sheeps,

0 024

and only deserts are besides the road.

0 003

After I passed the road to hospital,

0 001

I finally reached a paradise.

0 178

Working with companions under hot weather,

0 005

heavy work fatigued both my body and my heart.

0 014

But my mind got refreshed soon after we had gathered,

0 017

and with a smile from the angel.

Life In Jordan

It is the 5th day I work here in the hospital in Jordan. I am assigned to maintenance work for the hospital like digging a chain for phone and internet connections, in a city called "Ma Fraq" in the northern part of Jordan. There are people from most of the Middle East Countries, e.g. local Jordanians, Palestians, Egyptians, Yamens and Syrians. Since I have not worked like a 苦力 for a long time, I feel really exhausted everyday.

Hopefully, I will go to a city in the southern part of Jordan (I forgot the name !!!) and teach the children there. I really look forward to the duty there as well as the scene, as I was told by the maintenance leader here that the scene is so beautiful there.
